Project - Education and Career Development Programs for

Students from Underprivileged Families

(I) Monthly Education Grant
Education can have tremendous impacts on the individual. Students living with their families may face financial difficulties, and they are often burdened to hold one or more part-time jobs to earn living expenses or allowance, which is oftentimes correlated with a lack of school-life balance and a higher drop-out rate. To address this challenge, our foundation provides monthly education grants to help students under the age of 18 with educational resources to let have an optimized academic experience. We sincerely are concerned about their emotional and mental well-being and will provide them the necessary resources (e.g., job training, etc.) to brighten their current living situations in the hopes of improving their quality of life, and getting out of poverty.

(II) Merit and Performance-Based Scholarship
To encourage students to focus on schoolwork, school life and curriculum as well as extra- curriculum activities, our foundation stipulates this regulation. Students who meet the minimum requirements shall submit their academic transcripts for two consecutive semesters, along with a self-introduction letter within two weeks once the new semester starts. Even though the academic results of students might not meet the minimum requirements, our foundation still allows such students to justify or provide further explanations regarding their submission or provide other performance results for reapplication.

(III) Mental Health and Vocational Counseling
According to the instruction of our Chairman, mental health and vocational counseling shall be arranged to help children from underprivileged backgrounds to deal with their emotions and any traumatic experiences in seeing themselves and accepting themselves. These services are also provided to help students discover their careers, and in turn transform individuals to become more courageous in trying and challenging times to help them discover the limitless possibilities of life.

(IV) Online Courses
According to the instruction of our Chairman, she hopes to offer needed instructional materials and online courses (including current programs of our Learning Center with the exception of English classes with foreign teachers) to the project students with better academic grades as well as those with the intended desire to improve their academic performance, but are unable to attend in-person classes in MCF Learning Center due to transportation or other personal issues.

(V) College Tuition Fees Assistance
Our policy indicates that students over the age of 18 and have graduated from high school, who receive funds from our foundation can keep learning in school without worrying about the family's financial difficulties, and its purpose is to relieve the economic pressure when such students go to university. The students shall submit the application with academic transcripts of last semester as well as receipt copy of registration fee for the following semester before the end of September during the first semester and before the end of March during the second semester. Basically, the actual funds depend on the academic performance of the students, academic conducts, self-introduction, personal needs, and the total costs of the registration fees.

Project - MCF Learning Center (free to students)

Picture
(I) In-Person Courses
The purpose of establishing the learning center is to cultivate students’ overall learning interests and establish their basic English communication abilities, which shall serve as employment advantages in the future. Doing so not only narrows the urban-rural gap, it also offers the necessary educational resources to the economic disadvantaged. Aside from the reinforcement in schoolwork, attention is specially attached to the English communication ability. The Center will further include programs such as music, arts, computer science application, sports, and dance to explore students’ potentials and expand their international horizons. Apart from the center in Zhunan, MCF Taiwan would set up more learning centers in other areas to provide services for more local students.

(II) Online Courses (Due to the severe Covid-19 outbreak)
Due to the severe Covid-19 outbreak, the Ministry of Education has announced that all levels of schools nationwide shall suspend all classes from May 19th 2021. So far, the alert has been extended three times until July 12th 2021. On the first week of the emergency class suspension, the chairman instantly instructed the substitution plan of online classes. With reference to cases in Europe and America, the alert is not likely to be canceled within a short period of time. However, students’ learning may not be suspended. We purchased tablets, notebooks, WIFI routers, and relevant auxiliary items for students to borrow and use. We also assist students in taking online courses provided by the school. Students at our center are from underprivileged backgrounds that may have problems of using the proper technological equipment and accessing internet bandwidth.

(IV) Mental Health and Vocational Counseling
The MCF Learning Center encourages fostering personal growth and self-confidence in our students. Upon the establishment of the MCF Learning Center, our chairman-Michelle instructed that our primary target is to improve the students’ learning interests. The center aims to substitute the systematic teaching at schools with interactive methodologies and provides academic and vocational services from experienced teachers and counselors with relevant backgrounds. These hired staff members may help with students’sense of achievement through a child-center approach. However, the students’ interpersonal and social skills require professional assistance. According to our Chairman, mental health and vocational counseling shall be arranged to help children from underprivileged backgrounds in dealing with their emotions and the traumatic experiences and accepting themselves and others to discover their life careers, and in turn help transform individuals to become more courageous during challenging times to discover the limitless possibilities of life.

(V) Incentive-based Compensation
To provide a child-centered learning environment that considers the freedom, respect, opinions, and well-being of our students, we have decided that the homeroom teachers and students may collaborate to establish the class regulations.
Furthermore, to encourage a healthy learning attitude, this joint effort is also fruitful to build an incentive-based compensation.

Project - Student Learning Collaboration

Program with Schools (free to students)

Picture
(I) Collaborate with School to Open Classes~ Nanzhuang Junior High School
With improving students’ learning interests as the primary goal, we visited schools with identical concepts and let the schools establish the plan by adopting methods different from general systematic teaching methods at schools. The schools are responsible for arranging teachers, the time of classes, and the use of classrooms. Our foundation is responsible for recruiting foreign teachers, purchasing teaching materials, providing snacks for students, and learning records of students.
We collaborated with Nanzhuang Junior High School to open the class from spring semester 2021 to summer vacation, but the program in the fall semester 2021 could not be renewed for some particular reasons. The class might restart pretty soon.
